Common auto electrical jobs in Nollamara

Nollamara is less than 10 km north of the CBD, between Yokine, Dianella and Balga. It has gone through steady renewal in recent years, with new townhouses replacing older homes, and Flinders Street and Wanneroo Road give quick access to the city.

Tight townhouse garages

New townhouses often come with narrow single garages and short driveways. Front and rear parking sensors take the guesswork out of nosing in without touching the wall or the bins. Sensors are mounted in holes drilled in the bumper and wired back to a control unit. Getting the height and angle right matters, or they'll beep at the ground. A short front camera can help too, especially on taller SUVs.

Checking a used car before you buy

Many young families moving to Nollamara buy a second-hand car. A quick electrical check before handing over money is worthwhile: scan for stored fault codes, test the battery and charging voltage, and try every window, light and switch. Cleared codes can hide a problem, so ask when the battery was last disconnected. Our guide on how to read fault codes with an OBD2 scanner explains how.

Interior lights left on

Kids, shopping bags and a door not quite shut are a common recipe for an interior light burning all night, and a flat battery in the morning. Swapping the old incandescent cabin globes for LEDs cuts the drain a lot. Our guide on how to replace an interior light globe shows how to remove the lens without breaking the clips.

Battery light on Wanneroo Road

If the battery light comes on while you're driving, the car has stopped charging and is running on the battery alone. Turn off what you don't need, such as the air conditioning and radio, and head somewhere safe. A broken drive belt, a failed alternator or a loose connection are the usual causes. Our guide on the battery warning light coming on while driving explains what to do.

Nollamara auto electrical questions

What should I check on a used car's electrics before buying?

Scan for fault codes, test the battery and charging voltage, and check that every light, window, lock, wiper and the air conditioning work. Look under the bonnet for added wiring with tape joins or missing fuses. A warning light that's been cleared just before you arrive may come back after a few drives.

How far can I drive with the battery light on?

It depends on the battery's condition and what's switched on, but often only a short distance. Once the battery runs down, the engine can stop and power steering may be lost. Turn off non-essential loads and get to a safe place quickly. If the temperature gauge also rises, the drive belt may have broken, so stop as soon as safely possible.

Local tip for Nollamara

If you're moving into a new Nollamara townhouse, measure the garage before you buy a bigger car, and think about parking sensors early. They're simpler to fit before the bumper collects scuffs from the garage wall. Swap the interior globes to LEDs at the same time so a door left ajar doesn't flatten the battery overnight.
